Kevin ’s Story

Site created on November 23, 2020

Welcome to Big Kev’s Caring Bridge! We’ll use this site to communicate with all of our loved ones and community members all in one place as Kev begins to heal and recover from his accident.

Please note that tributes on the top of the page go to the Caring Bridge site. That’s a great way to support this platform, but check out the “ways to help” tab on top for ways to help Kevin more directly.

On Saturday, November 21, Kevin fell about 8 feet off of a fire truck in Oak Bluffs, MA. Emergency responders, Kevin’s community, coworkers and friends, were already on scene, and acted quickly. He was soon airlifted off the island to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He sustained several facial fractures, vertebrae fractures, and skull fractures, as well as some small brain bleeds.

Since Saturday, he has made miraculous progress, according to doctors and nurses. He no longer has a breathing tube, and is mostly oriented. He is in Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is out of the ICU. While Kevin is making fast progress, full recovery is going to be a long road, about a month in inpatient rehabilitation in Boston before returning home to Martha's Vineyard. The continuous and compassionate support of the Oak Bluffs EMS and the rest of Kevin's communities is so appreciated!

For now, we’ll post at least one update per day here. If you want to say hi or have more specific questions, text Ceili at 201-637-7644.

Journal entry by Ceili Brennan

Kevin’s been home for about 48 hours, after a month of being in hospitals in Boston. We are all SO happy he is home, and he is happy too. He is laying low for a while at home, and we are enjoying eating meals all together, and going for short walks. He’ll be starting outpatient therapy on Monday here on Martha’s Vineyard. Thank you all so much for being with us in so many ways this past month, we felt so loved. We hope everyone has a cozy holiday season! ❤️
