Kenzi’s Story

Site created on August 30, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
No one plans financially, emotionally or mentally for cancer.  When you are told that your happy and spunky 4 year old, you certainly aren’t prepared.  We are determined to conquer this with Kenzi so that one day her story will be her testimony.  Her testimony to others how her strength and determination overcome this.  Our family journey will now be filled with sacrifices that will become our new normal.  We are determined that anything we can do to have our healthy little girl back is not a sacrifice at all, it is a blessing! We are in our 2nd week of chemo - 5 small sessions and Sunday started the more lengthy and intense chemo treatments.  We have already witnessed the toll it has taken on Kenzi, from her appetite to her energy.  Again, she is determined and a fighter! Doctors have told us to expect life changes when we are released on Thursday.  I will withdraw her brother and her sister from traditional school and they will begin home schooling immediately.  They have told us that we can’t be too careful.  I am thankful for a job that appreciates family and is supportive in my need to be with my daughter throughout this journey.  We will have scheduled chemo treatments and will have to stay 3-5 days with each so my work family has made it easy and is beside us in our fight.  It will definitely be a financial burden with me not working during this but nothing that we can’t get through for Kenzi.  Our community has shown us more love and support than we could have ever imagined and we are eternally grateful for the prayers prayed for Kenzi, for us, for the doctors and for complete healing.  Please above all else, don't cease in your prayers.  We have felt each and every one of them.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashlyn Wallace

Update on Kenz.. We had to be at Children's at 7:00am for scans. Around 8:30am the anesthesiologist felt it was unsafe to sedate her if needed. He heard wheezing when listening to her. We were going to try to do scans not sedated. But then the nurses heard coughing and said if she coughs one time while laying there it would mess the whole scan up and insurance would not pay for another one. After they spoke with Dr.Wadhwa he was okay with this being rescheduled. Since she had pneumonia on 10/6 they like to wait 4-6 weeks after to recover from that.(Would have been nice to know beforehand) She is now rescheduled for 11/21/23.
We went to clinic to see Dr.Wadhwa and Dr.Broadnox and they would still like for her to start her new chemo pill tonight. We went over possible side effects and signed consents. Kenz also had her labs drawn and they were all good. :)
She got her LAST monthly pentam breathing treatment also and she was so excited to hear it was the last one. She hates that nasty tasting mess.
She has been having pretty bad neuropathy pain in her feet and tummy aches a lot. We have decided to go back to 3 times a day on gabapentin and he prescribed Bentyl to possibly help with the tummy aches and we will also continue the lactaid.
PTL we do not have to go back to the clinic until Nov 21st :)  She does have other specialist appointments before then. But, we are excited her weekly trips to the clinic get to be monthly now unless something comes up.
Thank you all for the love and support and especially the prayers for our princess warrior.
