Kenzie’s Story

Site created on June 12, 2020

Hi everyone. This is Kenzie- The warrior princess. She loves playing dress up, cooking, puzzles and also love to sing and dance. She is a 3 yr old girl diagnosed with stage 4 hepatoblastoma(a rare liver cancer) that spread both to her lungs since January 28, 2020 after her 3rd birthday. She started ist cycle of chemotherapy treatment on February 1st. Her chemo treatment plan consist of 3 blocks of chemo (cisplatin and doxorubicin) followed by an evaluation for liver transplant. Praise the Lord. The Chemotherapy did its job quickly. Overall response with clinical trials was very excellent. Her 3 tumors on her lungs were completely gone and surgeons confidently 100% able to take it out the tumor in her liver and no liver transplant needed. Successful liver hepatectomy and cholecystectomy(gallbladder) surgery last april 24. Following liver resection recovery, she will need to undergo 3 more cycles of chemotherapy(carboplatin and doxorubicin) to complete the therapy and also to prevent cancer cells spread after surgery. Kenzie is healing wonderfully from her surgery. She checks in every week to the clinic if she needs any blood products and finished the chemotherapy last july 15th 2020. After a few months, post chemotherapy follow up scans revealed two tumor growth to her right lungs. All confirmed it was a relapsed (hepatoblastoma relapsed).
It is a heartbreaking and grueling process. Lung surgery was successfully done to remove the cancerous tumor. After 3 weeks lung healing recovery, she started another salvage chemo treatment( cisplatin/etoposide alternating irinotecan/vincristine. Total 5 cycles chemotherapy for lung tumor relapsed and the care up to 2021. Salvage chemotherapy for relapsed finished December 11, 2020. She had a scans last January 8, 2021 and there’s no signs of new growth of tumors. We thought this will be the final step however our oncologist recommended oral chemo maintenance treatment for 6 months. The oral chemo treatment every 21 days from day 1 through day 5. Now on oral chemo treatment to keep her in remission.
Prayers appreciated. We are one step closer. We are so grateful she has gotten this far. We still have a long journey ahead of us which we are determined to fight and succeed. In addition, Kenzie ended up has high frequency hearing loss and she is wearing hearing aids both ears. 36% of kids who get cisplatin(chemo drug) have hearing loss. We are so grateful that this is atleast the manageable side effect of the initial 6 cycles of chemo. Most important we have our daughter so we are thankful, grateful and amazed. We hold her tighter and spoil her often.

Great news 👏🤩❤️Home sweet home. Kenzie is healing wonderfully from liver hepatectomy and gallbladder removal  procedures and also need a week of rest at least. She is not yet free and clear of cancer margin until we have the pathology results. Kenzie will need to check in again on Monday if she needs any blood product. Her chemo will start again once her platelets come up on their own. We’re so grateful she has gotten to this point. Praise the Lord. Thank you for all of the prayers and checking on us. #teamkenzie #warriorprincess #hepatoblastoma🎗 #cholecystectomy #liverhepatectomy
