Kenn’s Story

Site created on July 23, 2019

September 26, 2015 will be a day that will forever be etched in mind as that was the day Kenn was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and portal hypertension caused by the liver disease.  We were at Katie’s wedding when he felt so weak he almost passed out so he was taken to Mayo in Barron where his hemoglobin was so low he needed a blood transfusion and was diagnosed with liver disease.  He had been seeing a doctor at Marshfield and for 5 years misdiagnosed his condition.  By the time Mayo had found the issue his condition was irreversible so we had to treat the symptoms.  In January of 2019 he has an evaluation for a liver transplant which he was officially listed with UNOS on Valentines Day.  As his condition worsens he has had to be hospitalized several times since May 2019 and he has been prioritize to the top of the list.  This is some of our journey.

Journal entry by Carol Kirkland

Although he was able to move to the floor from ICU we had a setback with his ammonia levels being high and he was agitated, emotional, confused and his hands trembled uncontrollably.  The personality changes that come along with the ammonia buildup are very difficult to deal with.  My prayer is that a liver is found soon.
