Kenna went to the hospital on Tuesday, July 3rd with severe jaundice and pain in her stomach. Three days later she was officially diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatits, a rare autoimmune disorder.  She is in need of a liver transplant. We thank you all for your kind words of love and encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Megan Schmid

Because we did not start this page until a week after she went into the hospital We will attempt to update everyone up to this point. After this entry we will update as needed.

Tuesday, July 3rd Kenna was having severe stomach pain and showing signs of jaundice. She was brought to urgent care by her father and from there was sent to an ER. After many tests it was concluded her liver was beginning to fail and she was sent to Porter Hospital. 2-3 days later it was confirmed that her liver was continuing to fail despite treatment and that she would need a liver transplant. Saturday July 7th, her condition continued to worsen and her kidneys were also being affected. At this time the doctors at Porter wanted her at a hospital that could do a transplant so from Porter she was sent via ambulance to Presbyterian St Luke’s.

Sunday, July 8th her mental status began to alter, likely because of her kidneys and liver failing.

At 12:45am the next morning she was sent to ICU due to pulmonary edema and pneumonia. She was intubated, heavily sedated, and put on 24/7 dialysis.

At this time her kidneys are responding to dialysis. We need her body to heal so we can get her ready for a liver transplant in, hopefully, the very near future.

Thank you for all of your support. We continue to talk to Kenna and give her all of your words of encouragement.

We will update when we have anything of importance to pass along.

We also appreciate your understanding when we do not respond to texts or phone calls. We appreciate it all more than you know and do read every message and listen to every voicemail.
