Ken & Suzy’s Story

Site created on October 17, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Our journey began 9-30-19 when Ken went to his Dermatologist and had biopsies taken of areas on his left leg. Results from these biopsies showed melanoma cells. Ken was referred to his Oncologist. His Oncologist then ordered PET Scan and MRI. No additional tumors were found with these scans. Ken was then referred to a cancer surgeon who said that his cancer is very rare. His has Stage 3C Melanoma and is now being referred to Duke University Medical Center in Raleigh/Durham, NC. Ken has, as of this post, 34 tumors in his left leg. At this point the cancer has not spread beyond his leg. They are however running along his lymphatic system towards the groin area towards the lymph nodes.

During all of this, Suzy was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, Oct 24th. She had a massive heart attack. Suzy actually flatlined and had to be shocked to start her heart again. Suzy had 3 stents put in for blockages that were 100%, 95% and 60-70% in two arteries on the heart respectvely. She was able to come home Saturday, Oct. 26th by the grace of God. She is very weak, but improving. Suzy will have to attend 12 weeks, 3 times per week, of cardiac rehab. Rehab will begin in about 3-4 weeks.

Ken heads to Duke for his first visit Monday, Oct 28th, to schedule his surgery/treatment.

We will continue to update you on both of us.

As we are beginning to incur many medical expenses, we have started this Go Fund Me site and would appreciate any assistance with any funds you feel led to offer us.

Thank you in advance and may God Bless You for your support.

Journal entry by Ken and Suzy Frady

Hey there

On the road back from Duke Medical in Durham.

Ken is now in clinical trial for polio virus without the stuff that makes you catch it or transmit it.  They took that part out and subbed with common cold.

3 injections into same tumor over period of about 5-6 weeks.

Today was biopsy of one of the tumors, bloodwork, and EKG

Next week is CT scan and MRI. Also Booster shot.

March 9th is first injection.  He and Dad will stay there until Ken has his follow up 2 days (Wednesday) after injection.

Then another follow up 10 days after

At 21 days, 2nd injection with 2 day follow-up

At 42 days, 3rd injection with 2 day follow-up

Side effects are minimal, if any.   PTL!

Praying this works.

Dr told us of another man in the trial with tumors like Ken's and now his are gone.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support.

Blessings!!!
