Game day!!!

Kendal's had lots of game days but this one was pretty special, even if it was just an alumni scrimmage.  She's had so many challenges that we are beyond appreciative and excited for her to have the opportunity to step onto a college court and play the game that she loves.

As far as the pancreas, she still has some issues with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency but is learning to manage life with EPI.  Overall from that standpoint I think she's pretty stable and getting use to the new normal.

Things were pretty calm from the medical standpoint over the summer so in true Kendal fashion, she found a new hurdle to cross.....

While jumping out of a boat into the water, she hit the sandbar below causing her knee to hyperextend resulting in a full thickness tear of her PCL and one or two tears in her meniscus (3 ortho drs, 3 different opinions on that one).  After those appointments, we decided to hold off on surgery & try to rehab the knee instead.   We're so extremely thankful for the AT, PT,  and coaches at Manchester that helped her get in the gym every day to put in the work to be able to play today.   Also thank you to everyone that reached out to recommend Dr. Klootwyk.  We love him!  He repaired Kolten's torn ACL in March.  It was very helpful to have so many people reassure her she was in great hands.

We were told to expect her to be out of sports for over a year if she had the surgery so true to Kendal & her amazing determination to recover, she proved once again she has her own recovery timelines.   The knee is not 100% but the brace should keep it from being able to hyperextend again while she continues to work on strengthening it.

To add to the challenge, on her way home from getting cleared by Dr. K,  a truck with a trailer went into the median towards her. Thankfully it was a rainy day & the truck got bogged down in the grass but unfortunately while trying to correct, the trailer threw mud and rocks shattering her windshield & covering it with mud.  I'm sure she was not speeding (yes, that's sarcastic) so we'll assume she was going 65  & when the mud and rocks hit, it shattered her windshield and created a complete blackout.  By the grace of God, she was able to get stopped on the side of the road & walked to a nearby home.  The couple at the home were so amazing, they took her in, helped her pick glass out of her skin & hair and kept her calm the hour and a half it took me to get to her.  The gentleman was able to get the jeep and pull it into his driveway so it would be safely off the road.   He also allowed us to leave it there until we could get the windshield repaired.  (driving it anywhere wasn't an option according to the kind officer that someone called to check on her lol).

If anyone is in the Peru area and comes across Larry Fisher (retired from the AirForce who likes  to work on cars), please tell him thank you from us, I don't think we can thank him and his wife enough for watching out for Kendal!! She was pretty shaken up in the car on the way home but was so appreciative that they were in her words a God send to help her that day.

So, needless to say, with all things combined getting to watch her play & be in her happy place on a basketball court was simply amazing.
