Journal entry by Allison Grabow Rise

Ken has been home in Northfield with his wife, Carol, for about 2 months now. He has been focused on recovering from his traumatic fall, broken neck, and spinal surgery. He also had a broken thumb, which was set with a pin for healing.

Since his accident in August, Ken’s mindset and plan has been to recover and heal and get right back into his life and work. The doctors and nurses have been amazed with his positive outlook and optimism. They have all said that it was a miracle that he lived through the fall itself, and the emergency surgery immediately after, that put his spine back together.

About 2 weeks ago, Ken was scheduled to have his chest plate and neck brace taken off, and be cleared to eat solid foods. He was very much looking forward to this milestone in his recovery process. He was excited to continue his recovery so that he would be able to return to work on a part time basis shortly after that.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. After more scans and tests, Ken’s neurosurgeon explained that he would have to endure another spinal surgery to better secure his spine and neck, or be at severe risk of becoming paralyzed at some point in the near future.

Ken is scheduled for spinal surgery on Tuesday, November 26th at Regions hospital. He will remain in the hospital for 3-7 days after surgery, and will then return home for more rest, recovery, rehabilitation, and healing. We would greatly appreciate your prayers for Ken, his neurosurgeon, and all the staff at Regions that will be involved in his surgery.

This is a huge setback for Ken. While trying his best to remain positive, he is understandably in low spirits with the feeling that he was getting better, only to have the rug pulled out from underneath him once more.

Medical bills (and living expenses) are piling up, disability payments have still not come through, and the stress of all of this is taking a huge toll on both Ken and Carol, physically and mentally. We ask for your prayers for them at this time as they try to navigate through this.

Please pray for Ken. He needs it more than ever, and honestly, we all do. 🙏

Ken and Carol are so grateful for the previous donations to Ken’s go fund me, as the fund paid for his medical and living expenses for August, September, and October. Now, they are in a dire situation as Ken embarks on another surgery, more time not being able to work, and a very unknown future, both medically and financially. We ask that if you are able, you would consider giving of your prayers and financial donations to Ken.

Thank you for your prayers and support. ❤️
