Journal entry by Kelly Burton

The time has come to say goodbye to Caring Bridge and say thank you to everyone who has read my stories. It’s been a daunting six weeks of health ups and downs. However, I’m now on the up and up and ready to move forward.

On Wednesday night I finished my final IV treatment, on Thursday afternoon a home nurse removed my PICC line, and on Thursday night Eric and I celebrated. I'm truly feeling better and on my way to recovery.

As I look back at what these weeks have taught me, I see that God had me in hand the whole time. Never did I feel alone or forgotten. I had friends and family constantly checking on me, sending me cards and meals, texting and calling, and stopping by.

In this time, and in writing these posts, I’ve sought to be my authentic self. I’ve not held back my faith, my struggles, or my victories. I’ve tried to be vulnerable in showing up here, for all those willing to read. Honestly, I still have friends facing their own health challenges, and as happy as I am that this valley is finished for me, I’m praying for them. There’s cancer, terminal cancer, unborn children with health issues, and complications from spina bifida. However, many of these friends are also believers like me. We know that no matter the outcome… our final breaths bring us immediately to heaven. That comes from knowing who Jesus is. If all this Jesus talk over these weeks has sparked questions in you, please know I’m a safe person to ask about Him. I will not judge you or your questions. I’ll do my best to answer you. If you’re a friend from high school or college and know some of my crazy antics from then, and you’re perplexed as to where I am now… you might really have questions! That’s OK. I’m up for it.

Lastly, thank you Eric – my rock. You’ve been right there beside me in all the scary moments and moments of little victories. You’ve encouraged me at every turn while working every day. It’s been exhausting. There aren’t enough ways to say thank you and I love you, but I’ll keep trying anyway. 😘

Sammie, Taylor, and Colbe - your love and care have been so evident and warmed my heart every day. Thank you for putting me on all the prayer lists at Wheaton and your churches. Thank you for the gifs that made me laugh and the texts/phone calls that kept me encouraged. I'm so grateful you're my family.

  • Isaiah 43:19 (NLT) - For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

  • Psalms 146:2 (NLT) - I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.

  • John 3:16 (ESV) - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Thank you all for joining me on this journey.

God Bless You,
Kelly

ps - next up... Taylor and Colbe's wedding May 14! I need to find my dress... STAT!
