Journal entry by Kelli Lehmann

We have been waiting all week to hear from the surgeon about the final pathology report. Finally got an email today that they did find a couple small areas of cancer within the thyroid. At this point it does not look like it has spread anywhere else, it was contained just in the thyroid. This is great news! What we were hoping for. The treatment for this is just what we did, remove the total thyroid. Very grateful for the doctors in Omaha!

I am still recovering in Lincoln at my parents place. It’s gone slower than I thought it might. It’s not an issue of pain but an issue of severe exhaustion, fatigue, muscle aches. I did bring this up with the endocrinologist and surgeon who both stated that it should get better within the next week. I was started on thyroid hormone replacement the day after surgery but they don’t think that it’s an issue of low levels.
We go back to Omaha June 1 to see the surgeon and June 2 to see the endocrinologist. We will get the final say so on things at that point. My incision looks great and the pain is almost gone. I’m moving my head much better and hope to be able to start driving again this weekend. Slowly trying to get my stamina back by taking small walks today. Was grateful for a visit from a friend and the help from my parents. And of course Enzo is always my shining light!
