Kekoa’s Story

Site created on April 20, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

We will update with information about a future celebration of life.  Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers through this tough time. If you are interested in helping the family please visit the “Ways to Help” tab.  You can also go to Kekoa’s Instagram page @kekoastrong.

On Sunday, April 19th, our 8-year old Koa was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and has complications of cerebral hemorrhaging. He is currently at Stanford Hospital receiving treatment and fighting with everything that he has. These next couple days are crucial, we ask that you keep Koa and his family in your prayers and thoughts. The name "Kekoa" in Hawaiian translates as "Brave, Bold, Fighter, Warrior," and that's exactly what he is right now. We thank you all for reaching out and offering your support, please look at the "Ways to Help" tab as we are also taking precautions with COVID-19.

Memory Journal Contributions

Many of you have comforted Dave, Lisa and the family by sharing memories and pictures of Koa. Some of Koa's friends have sent drawings and messages - all of which bring smiles and joy during such a challenging time.

Koa's cousin Sydney is compiling a memory journal that will preserve your thoughts, stories, pictures, drawings, etc. - anything you wish to contribute the journal.  Sydney will be collecting contributions for the next month.

If you have anything to contribute to Koa's memory journal, please email them to Sydney.Alvarado@cox.net - if you have files that are too large to send via email, Sydney can make other arrangements with you directly.  She will reply to confirm your files were received, if you don't receive a reply within a couple days - she didn't receive your email and you should contact her again.

Please feel free to contact Sydney with any questions.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
Help Kekoa Stay Connected to Family and Friends

A $25 donation powers a page like Kekoa's for two weeks.

If you donate by April 17, your gift will doubled, thanks to a matching gift by former CaringBridge board members.
