How we got here…

Around 1:30 am on May 5, 2021, Keith was admitted to the IU Arnett Hospital Emergency Room for severe abdominal pain. A CT Scan revealed a blockage in his colon and several lesions on his liver. Emergency surgery was done to remove the blockage which was found to be a tumor. Over 9 inches of his colon and 24 lymph nodes were removed during the surgery and were all sent for testing to confirm suspicions of malignancy.

Recovery after surgery started out very well, but then a very sleepy colon and a fever that came out of nowhere turned it into a 9 day hospital stay. Several sets of CT scans, a liver biopsy, a few room moves, and lots of daytime TV later, the official pathology report came back with the news we were expecting but dreading.
On May 13, 2021 Keith was told that the tumor removed from his colon was cancerous. Two of the lymph nodes removed during surgery were also positive for Colon Cancer and although the official report had not come back yet on his liver biopsy, all signs pointed to that coming back positive for Colon Cancer as well. We had to start preparing ourselves for Stage IV Colon Cancer and all of the scary stuff that comes along with that diagnosis.

After several nerve-racking weeks filled with rough surgery recovery, a kiddo birthday, our 13th wedding anniversary, a soccer tournament, and a kiddo elementary graduation, we were finally able to sit down with the oncologist on May 28. For the first time in over three weeks we got some good news. Keith's PET/CT scan revealed that there were no major uptake locations aside from his liver. We also found out that the tumors in his liver were determined to be resectable so after a few months of chemotherapy there will be another surgery.

There is a long road ahead but we are hopeful that at the end of this road, we will be celebrating that Keith is free from cancer. We want to invite you to join us on this journey. I will try to keep updates coming whenever there is something to share. We appreciate all of the love and support that has been shown to us and will continue to be shown to us. We have the most amazing friends and family and we can never thank all of you enough for all of the love you show us.
