From Conventional Vent to Invasive NAVA (Neurally Adjusted Ventilator Assist)
Karlea was very brave for this procedure today.
Karlea's OG tube (feeding tube) was replaced with a special Edi Catheter (Electric Diaphragm Monitoring) that will help Karlea's diaphragm grow stronger and also feed her. Her brain will decide when to breathe on this technology and not a machine. She is taking short, quick breaths and we want her diaphragm and lungs to support longer, deeper breaths.
She is supposed to get better sleep quality, her brain will know what her body wants at all times, more lung protection, be more comfortable, and a great stepping stone for big days ahead without taking too large of an unknown risk.
The next step is Non-Invasive NAVA and then extubation!!! Where she will completely come off of Ventilation and move to Bubble C-pap which they see in Karlea's near future! She is at an oxygen level of 30% today.
We are so thankful to God, her angel nurses, and doctors - and so very, proud of her - for the leaps and bounds our mighty warrior is taking. We ask for continued prayers over her lungs and diaphragm in the next coming days.
