Kay’s Story

Site created on October 8, 2018

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."..Matthew 19:26

Our family has decided to start this site as Mom’s journey will be long and we are absolutely overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from all of our friends and family.

As many of you know Mom has been suffering with pain on her left side for the past couple months.  After many trips to doctors and three emergency room visits Mom was admitted to the hospital on September 30, 2018 when an abscess appeared on her side.  A drain was placed on the afternoon of 10-01-2018.

10-02-2018 Mom woke up to yet another abscess and was taken for immediate surgery.

After almost 6 hours of surgery our sweet mother was still fighting!  Mom’s intestine had attached to the internal wall of her abdomen which caused the abscess. In addition the surgeon found an internal hernia along with an previous appendicitis that killed a portion of her small intestine. The skin at the abscess was dead and required excision and skin grafting. Also a colostomy was placed.

Our Mother is a miracle.  God is clearly not done with her yet.  The appendicitis ruptured essentially into a bubble that was contained.

Mom is currently is SICU. She is on life support but has intermittently been breathing on her own. Each day she maintains is a victory.  Her road to recovery is long.

I am reminded of many times in our lives when circumstances seem incurmountable but God showed His plans are greater than ours and nothing is impossible with Him!

Journal entry by Christina Helms

At a little before 8 this evening our precious Mother entered into the presence of the Lord.  Many years ago at Bethany Baptist Church in Gastonia our Mother asked the Lord to be her Savior. With that came the hope of all her tomorrows.

Mom told me once she had asked God if he could please put her mansion next to an ocean. I believe at this moment that wish is realized plus many more that none of us here can fathom.

We are heartbroken yet not without hope. For our hope is in the one who sets us free. His name is Yeshua, Alpha, Omega, Messiah, Savior...Jesus!!!
