Kay’s Story

Site created on November 11, 2019

In early September 2019, Kay went to her primary care physician to discuss the issues she continued to have with her sinuses. She was referred to see an ENT who then sent her for a scan. The scan revealed a mass in her sinuses blocking her left nostril. Surgery was immediately scheduled for September 16th. The mass was removed and two days later on the 18th, the doctor called with the news that the mass was malignant and that it was inside a lymph node.

Then Kay  was scheduled for a mammogram, an ultrasound and bone marrow biopsy which found another mass in her left breast and also her left side. With those results a full body scan was performed and 2 more were found on the right side of her brain. A diagnosis of aggressive non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was given and within another week and a few more scans Kay was admitted in the hospital for a procedure to have a port inserted.

The second day in the hospital the doctor had a spinal tap procedure done to biopsy as well as to begin injecting chemo into her spinal fluid. A few days after, while recovering in the hospital and doctors continuing to study the cells found in her brain with the abnormal cells they began another chemo treatment that would specifically reach her brain. This chemo treatment has to be completely flushed out before being released from the hospital. She would then alternate between this chemo and the other which would be able to be done as outpatient.

Kay was back home resting and recovering, had a blood transfusion and then began her first outpatient chemo on Friday, November 1st. This chemo was followed up 27 hours later with a self injecting patch of Neulasta that has caused Kay to remain in constant pain which has caused her further complications each day.

Kay is in COMPLETE REMISSION!!!! 🙌🏻 The doctors at MD Anderson recommended that her chemo is upped from mini R-Cop to full. They also wanted her to begin the process of being approved for the stem cell rescue treatment so that she can be admitted for that immediately once her chemo is completely done.

They flew back home this morning and are resting up before she is admitted Monday for her inpatient chemo. We are all praising God 🙏 thanking Him for hearing and answering our prayers and for all the countless prayers you all have sent.

I couldn’t of asked for a better way to start 2020! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
