Kaylee slept through the night last night and sounded like she had a lot of energy to start the day when she FaceTimed me. I went in and got my hug and we talked a little bit. A few minutes after 9:00, she got up and we went downstairs for her meds. She made a Breakfast Essential for herself, which was way better than I did. I didn't eat anything this morning. Kaylee had an 11:30 appointment with Dr. Jones, her orthodontist in Martinsville, so we had to get ready.

I had an ad to knock out this morning and some changes to a wine label for a client. Then I got ready and drove to the winery. We needed to deliver two cases of wine to Pickle & Ash and then four cases of wine to Food Country in Stuart. Mom said she would deliver the wines, so I went to the winery to get them all out for her and sat them at the edge of the crush pad. I met Mom and Kaylee at the end of the driveway at the winery and then Kaylee and I went to Martinsville.

We went to Dr. Jones's office and they checked out Kaylee's progress and then gave her the next four trays of Invisaligns. She put a new set in while we were there since she changes them every two weeks. Since they gave her four sets, we won't go back down for an appointment for two months. It was a really quick appointment too, especially considering we were five minutes late for it. But they are such a wonderful group of people in that office.

We drove to Collinsville and had lunch at Fenderz again. Kaylee was so funny talking and joking around this morning. She talked non-stop on the way to Martinsville. At one point, I think she honestly talked for 10 minutes straight and I didn't even get a word in. I loved it though. I'm really lucky that I get to spend so much time with her.

When we were finished with lunch, we drove over to Patrick & Henry Community College. We were going to the bookstore to pick up her cap and gown for graduation. We rolled in while they were on lunch break, so we were walking around and saw a friend of Kaylee's, Gonzalo, and talked with him for a few minutes. He played soccer with Luke and Levi Williams and is graduating from Radford next month. We also walked by an office of a friend of ours, Stephanie Keith, so we went in and talked with her. Stephanie graduated high school with Tabatha, so we have known her a few years too.

We got Kaylee's cap and gown when the bookstore opened up and then we headed home. We took the back roads, which is the way Kaylee drove to school. And the way that I went my freshman year there. We passed by Blackberry Baptist Church where the helicopter lifted off to take Kaylee to Roanoke. I can still picture the rescue squad truck and the helicopter behind there and me jumping out of my Toyota pickup and running to Kaylee on the stretcher as they took her to the chopper. I leaned over and kissed her shoulder and told her that I loved her and would see her in Roanoke. She was intubated and I couldn't even recognize her except for the tattoo on her right forearm. I'm so glad that is not the last image I had of her. We also drove by where her car came to a stop in the woods across the creek. I didn't slow down or stop at either site. I didn't even say anything to Kaylee about it, we just drove by.

When we got home, Kaylee worked on some laundry and got ready for her nap. She went upstairs and laid down. I worked on some stuff and Kaylee slept about an hour and then texted Tabatha and me. She laid around upstairs and then came downstairs to help get ready for dinner. Kenzie was here for the evening and we all ate dinner on the deck. It's nice that it warmed up enough to get back out there again.

After dinner, Tabatha, Kaylee, Conner, and Kenzie played UNO flip it. Kenzie had to go home around 9:30, and Kaylee let me know she made it safely. Tabatha and Kaylee then went to the living room and watched TV. Well, Kaylee watched TV and Tabatha watched the back of her eyelids. A Wake Forest Baptist Health helicopter flew over the house about 10:45 and Kaylee and I tracked it on one of our apps. We can't see it once it drops below a certain elevation, so we don't know where it landed, but it must have been around Hillsville. Kaylee fed the cat and dog and we woke Tabatha up to go upstairs. Kaylee played her games, wrote in her journal, and turned her light off at 11:45.

By the way, the helicopter landed in Roanoke Memorial Hospital at 11:47. So in one hour, they flew from Martinsville to Hillsville, loaded a patient and then flew them to Roanoke. That is just amazing. We are so lucky to have people and transport to make that happen.
