Kay’s Story

Site created on August 19, 2019

Four years ago, Kay was officially added to the liver transplant list. She was diagnosed with Primary Scholorsing Cholongitis (PSC) over 20 years ago. PSC is a disease where the bile ducts deteriorate and the liver starts to lose function and die. There is no cure, but a transplant can reverse the effects of a dying liver.

Her best hope was to find a matching living liver donor, but after fours years that had not been going well- until a selfless, incredible young man felt it was his calling to go through the process. A couple weeks ago, the U of M officially cleared Beau Myhre (her daughter Annie's boyfriend) to be her donor!

On 9/11 Kay and Beau will go through the process of a liver transplant.

Annie (her daughter) will be updating this website with news as the journey ahead unfolds. As a family, we feel this is the best way to keep everyone informed.

Our family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and best wishes -- more will be needed in the coming weeks and months!

It is difficult to explain all the emotions that we are going through. We know that God will see us through this and Kay will be feeling better then she has in a long time.

Thanks for your support, and please check back for updates!

Journal entry by Annie Butler

Another successful appointment yesterday with my mom’s care team! She is still progressing extremely well, all her labs look great and they continue to be pleased with her recovery. While her standing doctor appointments will continue, they are becoming less frequent. And her home health nurse is down to one visit a week.

She is moving around a bit more, and is even getting out of the house for short outings (but still must wear a face mask when leaving the house).

She looks better and better each day, and has more life in her than we’ve seen in a long time!

Please feel free to reach out to her directly, if you like. But be patient if she doesn’t respond right away!

We can’t thank everyone enough for the incredible support we’ve received. Keep the positivity coming 😊
