Dear family and friends:

Contact: 650-644-8773; katjaeb@gmail.com

On May 1, 2018. Katja was diagnosed with non-small cell adenocarcinoma, a type of lung cancer, and later in June, with marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma). Katja and her family lost her mother Gunilla to the same lung cancer in February 2016. Please feel free to share the link to this site and/or Katja's contact information with anyone who asks.

Answers to "how can I help?":
1) spend time with us!

2) purchase gift cards for Uber rides for Katja's children who live in a different city. Anton and Elsa do not have a car and taking public transit and/or Uber is a financial hardship for them as they are young adults with low-paying jobs. Please contact Katja to get Anton's and Elsa's email addresses; then go to https://www.uber.com/gift-cards/ to purchase. We are sincerely grateful for your generosity!

3) take a look at the "Ways to Help" section to see what we need; this could be rides to and from appointments, dog walking, meals, and the like. This section will be updated as we go along. We may also reach out to you directly if we need to. Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to help us out!

4) to help with costs, donations can be made at GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/5pqa08w&rcid=r01-153175805139-b35d87bf2e7a4358&pc=ot_co_campmgmt_w

Newest Update

Journal entry by Katja Broddesson

On this 8th anniversary of my mother’s death from lung cancer, let me tell you a survival story. I was in the crosshairs of my TrueBeam friend three times over the last week, and everything went according to plan. In addition, I had a liquid biopsy which determined that the tumor burden in my blood is undetectable. Both my radiation and medical oncologists met with me to reassure me that the current strategy of “stay the course with current treatment and do the radiation whack-a-mole dance as needed” is indeed working.

As I lay in the half sarcophagus in the shape of myself, I was thinking back to my library school internship at the Stanford Linear Accelerator. How far we’ve come; from a mile-long particle-flinger that runs under the freeway to a cute room-sized beam-bender able to hit nano targets. Science!
