Katie’s Story

Site created on November 3, 2021

On the afternoon of October 27th, 2021, Katie was admitted to the U of M East Bank Hospital with severe bleeding. After an emergency endoscopy and some other testing, she was told that she had a mass in her colon. Fortunately, her doctors found that the cancer had not metastasized, and therefore was stage 1-3. She will have surgery to have the mass removed, which will likely be scheduled for the end of November.
We have created this Caring Bridge site to keep family and friends updated on Katie’s health.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Carrie Anderson

Hello again!

Katie spoke with her doctor today, and got the great news that she likely does not need chemotherapy! She will meet with her oncologist soon to discuss future treatment and prevention, but it is a great relief to know that chemo is unlikely the course.

The doctor also let her know that the cancer is Stage 2 t3n0m0.  Here is a link to a helpful website explaining cancer staging (I didn’t know anything about it):

She is still focusing on recovering from surgery, but feeling joyful at her doctor’s optimistic news, and getting stronger every day. She is keeping in mind how lucky it was that she had that terrifying bleed a few weeks ago—without it she may not have realized there was something seriously wrong until it was too late to treat it.

Please continue to keep Katie in your thoughts and sending healing vibes, but also breath a sigh of relief with this update!
