Katie’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On July 26th we were called into the doctors office to discuss CT scan results and were given the kind of news that brings you to your knees and turns your world upside down.  Within a week and a laparoscopic biopsy it is confirmed. I have Ovarian cancer.  I will start chemotherapy treatments next Wednesday 8/12, and then there will be surgery, and more chemo treatments to follow.

Journal entry by Doug Burt

Hello HERO's, our beautiful Katie rose to Heaven Saturday evening.  (sorry for the delay, I've been crying every second since).

She had a beautiful day Saturday. Her oldest son Aaron and her father Tim had just arrived that afternoon which completed bringing the entire family together under one roof to be by her side.

Katie spent the day in the comfortable surroundings of her home with her entire immediate family of 6 kids, brother, mother & father, 2 puppies, in laws and her husband.

She witnessed her 2 youngest children get baptized in our home that evening.

It was a good day.

Shortly after, she passed away, surrounded by all of us, and blessed by her pastor.

On behalf of the entire family, we are so thankful for all your support and kindness during this difficult time. So many of you have provided Katie with a smile, a heart felt tear and strength and encouragement. The cards, notes, gifts, and snacks while we were in Houston - were a godsend.

A memorial service followed by a celebration of life will be held April 9, 4-7 pm, Advent Episcopal Church, 13150 W Spanish Garden Drive, Sun City West, AZ 85375.

In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Clearity Foundation in the fight against ovarian cancer at www.clearityfoundation.org.

Rest in peace, love of my life, women of my dreams - my best most amazing friend, my Kay.

In mourning,

Douglas A. Burt
