Newest Update

Journal entry by Kris Perry

It’s been nearly two weeks since Kathy was released from the Melrose hospital. After a whirlwind of house preparations, she arrived safely home on Saturday July 24.

Kathy has been admitted into CentrCare’s in-home Palliative Care program. She is provided with nurses, aides, physical & occupational therapists, a social worker and a 24-nurse line. The staff is exceptionally kind and encouraging.

Post-op pain management and mobility continue to be the focus. Both are gradually improving and the therapists are pleased with her progress. Kathy is living on the main floor of the house. The kitchen dining area is outfitted with a bed and a recliner. While not yet able to use stairs, she is able to walk indoors with a walker. She has a bright & sunny view of the back yard and family room.

Dr Pavan (oncologist) is waiting for Kathy to get a little stronger before starting treatments for multiple melanoma. He delivered good news last week explaining she has time to heal as her “numbers” have improved (meaning the cancer is not getting worse.)

Her spirits remain high – being home has been the best medicine! Nick is an excellent care-giver and the medical staff makes sure he has what he needs to keep Kathy safe and comfortable. A recent visit from Kathy’s Arizona brother Pat was a spirit lifter too.

Sorry for the delayed update, we’ve all been so busy adjusting to a new routine! We are so happy with Kathy’s medical team and confident she is getting excellent care. We appreciate the support from Kathy’s many friends. Thank you!
