Kathy’s Story

Site created on July 1, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge page for Kathy Harlow.  Kathy was diagnosed on June 25th with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare, serious, but curable neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system.  We are using this page to keep family and friends updated in one place- and we welcome you to share this site with anyone who has interest in following Kathy's progress.  While you do not need an account to access and follow this site, creating an account does allow for you to get email and/or text messages when we post updates on Kathy.  The most recent update will always be on the bottom of this homepage- and an archive of all updates located in the "Journal" tab above.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement- and we will share all comments and messages on this site with Kathy along her road to recovery!

PLEASE NOTE:  Visitation continues to be limited to immediate family ONLY.  Flowers are also not permitted in her room.  We welcome your prayers, thoughts, and positive vibes in the interim to help Kathy on her road to recovery.  As Kathy would say, bring on all the PEACE and LOVE you can!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kathy Harlow

Happy New Year to all of you and your families.  With the arrival of 2020, people are wishing me good health.  I am working hard to get stronger each day, but my wish for 2020 is to keep in touch with each other as I move forward.  GBS opened my eyes to those I love and treasure most, my family and friends.  As I welcome in the new year, I don't feel sorry for myself because I gained more than I lost.  I not only made new friends, but grew closer to those I have had the pleasure of having in my life.  During the past 6 months, my children have been the people to keep you informed about what was going on. They have always been amazing, and took that to a whole new level. I have not posted, or read all the replies that have been posted by you.  As I find myself with a little more time, I have been seeing posts, and again, I am humbled by your kind words.   I have learned that you never know whose life you have touched.  You don’t realize the power of your words or actions until someone shares it with you.  I have been fortunate to have a career working with children and families.  Always told my children to find something they love to do and it will never be work.  My passion took over my life at times, and that took me away from taking care of those closest to me.  Many of you reading this have told me to slow down.  Well GBS did that!  Stopped my body but not my spirit or my heart.  I challenge each of you, to make your “2020 Vison” about the people in your life.  Small gestures, a phone call, hand written note, text, baking, shovel their walk, or just smiling and saying hello to a stranger going by.  In so many ways we are losing the human touch in life.  Replacing humans with automation and I hear you Jon, cell phones attached to our hand sending texts instead of talking and being “present” in our life.   Look into your heart and let someone you know how much they mean to you.    I hope that I let you know how much you mean to me.  OK Patrick and Beth I am getting off my soapbox, lecture over!!    Together let’s make a difference in someone’s life. Love, peace and hugs.
