Kathy’s Story

Site created on May 21, 2019

Welcome to Kathy's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

UPDATE 5/28/19: If all goes according to plan, Kathy will go home today.  She has a 5/30/19 followup appointment to make sure the healing from surgery is going well.  Radiation should start in a couple weeks - we're still finding out details on that (e.g., how often for how long).

Kathy wants you to know she very much appreciates your support and asks that you:

·         Pretty much continue treating things as if she doesn't have cancer. Hopefully she'll be on the other side of this soon.

·         Leave messages of love and encouragement - it helps to know you're thinking of her.

Also, please don't:

·         Try to send money to her or this website.  She is covered and has already contributed to support the website.

·         Expect a quick response to phone and email messages (though she'll probably get better at this once she's home)

Quick summary:
In May 2019, doctors found cancer cells in the lymph nodes at the top of Kathy's left leg.  They ran all the tests including an MRI, PET, CT, and colonoscopy.  They didn't find a primary tumor that would tell them where the cancer cells in the lymph nodes were coming from  - nor did they find any tumors on the other side of the lymph nodes. Technically, this is called metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the left inguinal lymph nodes with unknown source.

On 5/24/19 she had surgery to remove remaining lymph nodes on her left side.  The doctor thinks he got it all - but also recommends further tests and radiation treatments.
