Kathy’s Story

Site created on October 11, 2018

For of those of you that do not know Mom has been sick for the last few weeks. She ended up having to go to the hospital for having a hard time breathing due to  rhino virus (common cold) and  they suspected it progressed to a viral pneumonia  and they felt she needed an ICU setting. Her breathing was progressively getting worse and they had her on a machine to help her breathe (ventilator). She was placed on a ventilator Tuesday October 9th. Currently she is in a medically enduced coma where the machine is doing 100% of the breathing for her to allow her lungs to rest. They want her to remain in this coma for at least 48 hours and have her lungs rest. After the 48 hrs they still slowly wake her up and try to wean her off of the breathing machine. This is an ongoing process and the treatment plan is changing frequently based on how she is doing.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Bob Barth

Hello everyone. This will be the last update on CaringBridge. I would like to thank everyone for following Kathy's ""progress""  on her"" ROAD to RECOVERY"".👏😊.
For this last update I have asked Kathy to write the last message.

To all who followed my journey on CaringBridge I thank you for your interest & your words of encouragement.
Bob would always share with me everyone's messages as a way of brightening my day and passing time during my 3 months of Hospital stay.

Since the very first post on October 11th we have had over 8300 site visits. Thank you. Thank you.

I have been home now for 11 weeks.""Be it ever so humble, theres no  place like Home."" I have been getting in home therapy & a nurse visit once a week. My therapy will go to the end of March, & then I will continue with out-patient therapy here at our local Hospital.
I am getting around quite well, no walker or cane. I still have oxygen, but am able to go quite awhile without it as long as I am not real active. The goal is to be off O2  completely.
These past couple of weeks they have been working with me on climbing stairs.  I started out doing 4 steps at a time ,and now I am able to go up & down the entire basement stairs.  What a"" HUGE"" accomplishment for me .  This past week I was able to  take my first walk outside. I really loved that and am looking forward to more of them .

We have been so blessed to have such a great group of family & friends and the tremendous amount of prayers 🙏offered for us & my recovery.

Thank you for following all the Post that have been made regarding ""Kathy's JOURNEY on the ROAD to RECOVERY.""☺️
Bob
