Journal entry by Elaine Brotherton —
This will be my last post on here about my mother. On behalf of my father and I, we would like to thank everyone who has been apart of this end of life journey with us.
My mother loved life so very much! She loved people! She enjoyed and valued everyone from the very young caregivers to her friends and family she has known a lifetime.
My mother transitioned from this life a very happy woman, who was not in pain. Those last few weeks she spoke to loved ones on the phone, facetimed ect. She was blessed with beautiful weather, laughter, great food and visits. It’s strange to say she had a beautiful death, but she did. When we spoke in December after her diagnosis I asked if she was afraid of dying, her response was, “no, but I will miss you, my family and friends.” After being in Ireland for thirteen of the sixteen weeks before her death and hearing from people near and far who are shocked at how quickly and sad things declined at the end, know she was at peace with dying and she is in every one of your hearts! People told me you got to spend quality time with her at the end….. no, I got to spend a quality life with an amazing woman who touched many.
Again, we thank everyone who made this transition so very beautiful from my employers in America, the medical staff, caregivers, neighbors, friends all over the world, her brothers and sisters. Keep her in your hearts and know she loved life and you oh so very much!
Thank you
Elaine and Don
