Katherine and Stephen’s Story

On May 21st Katherine and her new husband, Stephen, Stephen’s sister Heidi and her partner Justin were in a car crash in Oakland, CA.  Tragically, Heidi did not survive the collision. This site will be used, primarily, for updates on Katherine and Stephen’s conditions and recovery. Kat’s parents, along with Stephen’s parents, Paul & Cindy, are co-authors. Justin’s parents have a separate Caring Bridge for Justin Rheault.

Unfortunately the transplant attempt has been canceled. Once they were able to inspect the organ, it didn’t meet the medical team’s expectations. 
While Katherine and Stephen knew this was a possible outcome, it is still a disappointment. We trust the doctors and experts to make the correct decisions to enable a viable transplant and the strongest opportunity for Kat’s long term wellbeing. Today, that means continuing to wait for the best possible donation. 
Thank all of you for your prayers, blessings, support and well wishes. They mean so much and are so very needed.
