Mary Katherine’s Story

Site created on October 6, 2020

Mary Katherine is a veteran Navy helicopter pilot and mother. Five days after delivering a beautiful healthy baby girl, Katherine suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke. Surgeons performed life-saving emergency surgery and she was in a medically induced coma for almost 3 weeks. She then spent two months in the hospital and a full-time rehabilitation center working hard to recover as much function as possible. We are so grateful that she has been able to return home to her family, but with this long journey comes many challenges. There have been, and continue to be, significant expenses related to medical care, travel/commuting for rehab and hospital visits, child care, and Wes taking extended time off work to care for their family. Wes and Katherine are tough, positive, and hard-working. But, as family and friends, we can help to ease their burden by sharing our time, talent, and treasure. Wes travels for work, so getting Katherine to and from rehab when he's gone is a particular concern. Financial contributions will be used toward future home care for Katherine, extra therapy sessions, groceries for the family, and other uncovered medical expenses. You may contribute to the general fund or towards a specific expense area listed. Please check back periodically as we will update the page as the Ogden family's needs evolve. Thank you for your help and prayers.

Summer is here! Swim team, soccer, and travel. Wes is going back to Dallas for re-qualification at Southwest and Mimi is coming to help. But still, crazy busy every day.

Katherine started at a new physical therpay facility. She is excited to try out some new therapies and moved into a less cumbersome leg brace. It's slowed her down a little as she gets used to using her ankle muscles more. She's also trying more barefoot walking, with a spotter.  Slow and steady.

Her hand progress has stalled a bit, but we're waiting on some more injections of Phenol to loosen up her fingers. She still uses the robot arm and works on opening and closing her hand.

Thanks for everyone who helps get her to rehab. It's a huge help to the family and Katherine enjoys seeing y'all. Have a great June!
