Charlotte-What a shock! I had no idea until I saw a dedication to Dr Prado on FB.
I am so sorry 😐 you lost your beloved husband and friend. He was truly dedicated to you and I saw on a daily basis how much he loved and adored you.
I’m grateful he (& Dr. Gagnon) taught me everything I know in the field of Dosimetry. I have had a wonderful career and now that I have retired (since 2007 to care for my parents) I think back to the “Good Ole Days” at Moncrief. He fondly referred to his time there as a “Golden Era” and I have to agree. I have never really found that same family atmosphere since then. I always looked forward to going to work and solving/planning cases with his assistance. He was a great teacher and mentor. I will always remember him with respect and fondness. I’ve enjoyed our annual Christmas cards since then and now I know why I didn’t get one this year. May God hold you, Charlotte, in the palm of His hand as you go through this difficult time. Warm regards, Nan-Ft. Worth, TX

Charlotte you and Karl are in my prayers. I remember my first days at MDACC and how friendly and supportive Karl was from day one. I was so fortunate to be his neighbor in the office and still quote him as he gave me the best comment for my time at MDACC. “ it’s a marathon, not a race”. This was and still is true in many aspects of life.

Wishing you peace during this time.
Love
Robin

I may have not the honor of knowing Karl as long as many of the people who are leaving their tributes, but I still remember and apply one sentence that he told me 11 years ago.
I met Karl, by absolute chance, when he was at MD Anderson. I had arrived at MD Anderson from half way across the globe, from Jordan, for a 1 month training. I was supposed to learn IMRT commissioning and QA and implement in my home country where I used to live. My training schedule didnt include time with Karl, but I met him on the day I spent in RPC (IROC). We had a chat and told him of the objective of my training, I complained that I may not be able to implement IMRT in Jordan because we may not be able to afford some of the more expensive phantoms used for QA. His reply to me was "Do the best you can with what you have." Then asked about what tools we have and gave ideas how to maximize their use to fit our need.
Perhaps my meeting with him didnt last more than 2 hours, yet his reply "Do the best you can with what you have" remains with me. I use it to teach others who work in less fortunate places. We all want to buy tools and equipment to do a perfect job, but life doesnt always give what you want, but this is not an excuse not to do your job. We should all do the best we can with what we have.
Thank you Karl for such words of wisdom. May you rest in peace.
From the Middle East, from Jordan, sending prayers and blessings to the family of Dr Prado.

I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. P. He was one of the very first physicists that I came to know in my days right out of college, so he will always have a special place in my heart. Dr. P was a friend, mentor and (sometimes) life coach who really took a sincere interest in seeing me succeed in a way that always made me feel special. I am certain that he was that person for so many others too though, and that is an incredible legacy to have left behind - many lives changed in some way, big or small, for the better. I will miss his kindness and cheer and am so thankful to have had known him.
