Karen’s story

I am a 3 time victim of violence with full custody, no visits, due to the violence. As a federal employee you aren’t eligible for disability or social security. Or unemployment. I was cut off on the freeway spun out, hit one wall and then hit the center divider head on, I completely shattered my ankle, so much so infection and amputation is a huge worry for the next 4-5 more weeks. Making me incapable to work, for up to almost a year, the doctor is saying. They are predicting at least 16 more weeks off of work with no pay, not to mention my 7/15,7/24 and any future surgeries, for sure there will be one in 6 weeks. The main concern now is infection and not getting it, so I don’t lose my foot or worse my leg. I haven’t been eating cause feeding my kids comes first, and stress I’ve lost my appetite. The hospital is trying to help with meals now so the 2 main concerns are medical bills and more importantly day to day bills since I am federal employee. I will have no income coming in for at least 8-12 months. I am a single mom so asking for any help is the hardest thing I have ever done, asking for help, that is. Anything will help me to keep the lights on and later the heat on, mortgage, HOA, insurance etc, if needed they can live without cable they already live without WiFi and have never had it. Thank you for taking the time to read this the 35,000-50,000$ would cover the bills, which are the most important, My main concern is about the daily bills and supplies for the 4 kids I raise on my own. We all know the hospital bills will most likely be way more than what I am predicting. I went from 1 week in one hospital to two days at home, to right back into the Hospital for another week. I know I have at keast one more surgery in 6 weeks, how long my stay in the hospital that time is unknown . Currently  Toilet paper toothpaste food etc are concerns  I don’t drink and haven’t for a few months, so none of the money would go to anything like that, thank you for your support this is a humbling time for me and it is appreciated that you even took the time to read it my dilemma. I really appreciate your time and any donations you can.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Catherine Cohen

So new life rules anything at risk for a break I can never do. This is the worst shatter, of course I accomplished it. 4 Trauma surgeons in the Bay Area have ever seen in their lives, ZOOM into the X-ray THE ANKLE is in so many pieces. The one thing I remember rolling into trauma unit, was we will be lucky to save the foot, much less the leg, Compund fracture, then they put me to sleep. I remember everything to a T. I Developed  my own PT exercises cause no one else was and I showed the Dr all 4 said my fight to win and my creative PT, probably saved the limb vascularly, the foot and leg and joint wise, etc. I refuse to leave house unless dr appt so I’ve avoided infection. I want to thank you Lisa Lowy for the delivery of fluids as hot as it’s been it’s helped drastically and I can’t believe I waited 6 weeks to share and 7 weeks to even tell my brother. I would like to thank Catherine Cohen for TP and medications. And I would like to thank Liz krisstofferson (sp) for help with laundry, much need help and daily company oh and a soda and more juice  store run.  I’m not out of the woods yet surgery next week and then another who knows when and a ton of therapy. They say the joint may never work again, non bending ankle. I’m alive !!! My life choices will all change, from what I eat, to exercising etc. I’m joining the cleaner gang watch me change my life just because I’m alive for a reason and it’s time to figure out why. I’ve had 9 lives real talk. I had no control over this one but it’s just time to figure this all out, if not for anyone else my Gbabies and then the great ones to come. I’m apologize for waiting so long but depression and fighting for your life and limbs isn’t easy at all. Now if I could find a house keeper for a hour or two so after this surgery I don’t fall over the kids BS which I have summoned over Wednesday to do it for me their turn lol.

Just a update if u took the time to read this it’s a update next update in a few weeks after next weeks surgery. Catherine Cohen I know u hate the store but if I need meds I just might call u, but I would always call a day at least in advance. My kids godfather found out through a FB friend in Seattle and stopped by and built my walker,  with 4 wheels sadly I’m back to a walker and fought so hard with the spine injury, to throw it away😢 the fight is on again 💪. and he got all caught up on what happened and why no one knew, tears shed so he knew I’m still a real mess. I had to explain no one really knew until Sunday, this was new news, old injury, Just clear me for pool therapy already 3 weeks at least for me to be back in my corner. Krista Whelan tell the life guards see them next year and be careful driving look out for the other idiots and you and I will have to go out to lunch with them when I’m more mobile.

Love everyone and the help and love is so appreciated. The meal offers even tho I still haven’t eaten all appreciated greatly. Love all you guys truly 💕💕
