Newest Update

Journal entry by Karen Johnson

It's hard to believe that it's been a year - but a year ago today, I received my breast cancer diagnosis.  Surgery, followed by 20 weeks of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation and lots of recovery - So we did a little celebrating last night at Pittsburgh Blue for my 50th Birthday and I my one year cancer anniversary.  It was nice to get out and the food was delicious.  We got some good family pictures as well.

I haven't updated in a while - so in a nut shell, I am doing OK.  My body is taking a little longer to recover than I would like, so taking things one day at a time.  I am mostly tired, and it doesn't take much to wear me out.  It just takes planning, so that I am able to rest when I need to.  My body is pretty good at telling me when it's time to slow down and when it needs to rest a while.   My hair is growing back, mostly gray, but growing back.  I am learning how easy it is to manage short hair, so it may just stay short for a while.

My next check up is scheduled for October 7th, so I have some scans and tests scheduled before then.  I started Tamoxifen at my last check-up, and that is probably on the plan for the next 10 years.

Gregg and I spent a week in Door County at the end of August.  It was nice to get away for a week and we are already planning our week for next week.

I will update again after my check up!

Have a great weekend!

Hugs and Love,

Karen
