Karen’s Story

Site created on December 1, 2021

Karen unexpectedly fell ill the week of Thanksgiving. She still managed to have a wonderful week with her husband, children, and grandchildren full of hearty  food and healthy laughter. After the festivities, she quickly declined and was admitted to the ER on Monday, November 29 where she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. She entered cardiac arrest late Monday night and was stabilized early Tuesday morning. She is now recovering at the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital under the care of some of the best doctors in the country.

In her short time there, we've seen encouraging signs. She's receiving a lot of medical support to help her heart and lungs function and to perform the functions of her liver and her kid tested, mother approved kidney (thank you, Ryan) so they can rest and recover. She's on a ventilator and is therefore heavily sedated. Despite all of this, she's woken up several times and made eye contact and responded to our voices and the nurses' commands.

We have a long road ahead of us, and we know we'll need your prayers, support, and well wishes. Karen is an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and woman. We know that if anyone can do it, she can.

Check back for updates. We're still getting this site running and figuring out what support we need. We'll post updates here and share any prayer services or masses that are organized for her. Thank you for your prayers and words of hope and support.
