Journal entry by Kate Nguyen

I was able to fly home to be with mom for thanksgiving, and to save some money, Kevin made the 10 hour drive up to Pennsylvania as well. Rick, Sean, April, Caspian, John, Mom,Kevin and I were all together for the holiday-- we cooked for her :-)... She's doing really great. She's tapering off on the steroids - and that has caused a little bit more difficulty with using her hand, which causes her frustration, but she's still doing fantastic. Every morning we read the Jesus Calling book together, prayed and did her occupation therapy exercises. I drove her to her appointments and waited in the lobby of  Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute (which is beautiful, by the way). We picked out a wig on Wednesday and she chose the brightest one - a medium length red headed wig that is beautiful and bright just like her personality. Thanksgiving was emotional for me, we attended the 7 Am and some of you may have seen me. I cried the entire time. I remember when I found God in an AA meeting over 20 years ago. A strong memory I have is when my younger self was drawing in my coloring books at the same table many of you shared your story of sobriety, helping my mom with hers. Who knew many years later I would be confiding in you to help us with another one of life's trials that we have faith that the Lord will walk us through. I cannot begin to express the gratitude I have for the community that has been with Mom through life ups and downs, and it is a true testament that God is always with us, even through the darkest moments. I felt my tiny 7 year old self as I held moms hand as we all stood in the circle reciting the lords prayer. Give us this day our daily bread.

I want this entry to be about mom but also hope that it's an encouragement to any of you going through a difficult time during the holidays. Mom has always been a rock in my life, and also in the lives of many others. It's now our turn to return the favor and lift her up and thank God for the miracles that are to happen. I believe it, because that's what Mom has been teaching my brothers and I our entire lives.

-We're thinking Mom will begin her Chemo / Radiation treatment on Dec 6th - but I'll keep ya posted on that

PS: The donations, cards, and words of encouragement are a HUGE help to moms recovery.
Every time we opened a card, we cried, laughed, then hugged, and then opened the next one..

Each donation helps with Moms mortgage payments as she goes through her 7 weeks of radiation / Chemo :
