Karen’s Story

Site created on July 9, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I have been fighting stage 3b breast cancer since June 5,2008. At the end of 2014 it metastasis to my lungs, liver and bones. The beginning of March 2020 I broke my left femur. I underwent two surgeries. One was to place a rod in my femur and the other was to place a plate in my tibia. I then underwent radiation treatment on my entire left leg. I have been struggling with my blood since then so I have only been able to sporadically do chemo treatments during this time. So here we are in July and I did CT scans. The results were overwhelmingly bad. The cancer has spread more in the bones and the liver. It has been determined by my Oncologist that there are no more treatment options. I have been referred to Hospice care.

Journal entry by Karen Duncan

Im Still hanging in there. Not much has changed in the last couple of days. I am still dealing with low blood pressure and high pulse upon standing or moving. My pain has been under control so that has been a nice change.

I wake up each day and see what symptoms Im having for the day. It does not seem like things are progressing just yet. It seems to be pretty stable. That is nice but hard to really know a timeline on this life and what are the next steps. I guess that is why the oncologist said it could be weeks or months depending on what the cancer wants to do. So for now, I am still here. I am accepting visitors.

Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers. They are all greatly appreciated.
