Karen’s Story

Site created on January 17, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Karen was on her way to the airport, excited to spend a couple days in Colorado  with her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Eric, and her grandson, Robby.  When she arrived at the airport parking lot, she collapsed by her car and was immediately rushed to the hospital.  Everything happened extremely quickly, and she was in the care of Carolinas Medical Center within minutes.

Karen suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm, and required immediate surgery to clip the aneurysm and stop the bleeding.  The surgery went well, and she is currently in the ICU.  However, complications can arise for up to 10 days after the surgery, so we're taking things day by day.  She is currently connected to the ventilator, but we're hoping she's able to be extubated in a day or so.

That's really all we know at the moment.  We will post updates here as we get them.  It's been amazing to see the outpouring of love and support we've received, and Karen appreciates you all.  For the ease of the family, please check here for all updates.  Feel free to share your own stories, memories or photos of Karen.  Thank you all.
