Kaleb’s Story

Site created on January 10, 2022

On January 4th, a large mass was discovered on Kaleb’s brain during an MRI that was taken at Ridgeview Hosptial in Waconia.  We were sent immediately to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis  for two surgeries to remove the mass.  On January 5th,  Kaleb had a successful first surgery to put implant a drain to remove excess fluid that had built up as a result of the mass.  Two days later on January 7th, Kaleb had an almost 5 hour major surgery to remove the large mass at the base of his neck and head.  The surgeons successfully removed the entire mass and Kaleb has begun the process of recovery.  We will use this site to keep all of you updated along his journey.  Thank you so much for your continued prayers, love, and support.  We love you all!  - Ryan, Jamie, Kailey and Kaleb Pederson

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ryan Pederson

It’s been awhile since I last updated Kaleb’s recovery progress, so I wanted to give a quick update.  Overall Kaleb is doing really well and progressing like we had hoped.  Recently he had another MRI and the team at Children’s was very pleased with how his ventricles looked and the back of his brain where the tumor was removed continues to heal properly.  He continues to go to physical therapy and work on his exercises each day at home during the week.  He has been cleared to resume all physical activity, so he’s been running, riding his bike, wrestling with his sister, fishing for minnows in the creek and shooting hoops in the driveway.  We’re incredibly humbled and thankful for his continued improvement.  Kaleb still continues to struggle with nausea/vomiting, not from any medication (he is off all meds now) but just as a normal part of the recovery process because the tumor was removed from the area of the brain that controls that function.  Please continue to pray that improves over time, as the team has informed us those symptoms can continue to up to a year post surgery.  Thank you for all your continued prayers, God is faithful!
