Kailani’s Story

Site created on April 13, 2018

Kailani was first diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2013. The diagnosis meant that Kailani had to withdraw from playing her senior year of NCAA Division one soccer and put a halt on her finishing her undergraduate degree. Throughout this time, she remained positive and optimistic knowing that she will one day return to play for Troy University. The determination and positivity Kailani displayed inspired her teammates and united an entire university campus to show their support and keep Kailani smiling. Project 19 was created in 2013 and by 2014 had raised $50,000. Although the monetary value was staggering, it was the unity of the people standing strong against cancer that helped Kailani the most.  Kailani returned to play out her senior year in 2014 after being told she was cancer free, graduating from Troy with the highest honours. It was during that time that Kailani donated the money she no longer required for her treatment to a cancer research facility in Alabama. After graduation, Kailani pursued a Master of Science as a Physicians Assistant to help and support other's undergoing cancer treatment, this career choice was testament to the selfless person she is. Unfortunately on approach into her final semester in PA school, Kailani had a recurrence of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. With the same resilience, optimism and smile she is fighting this battle once more. In a bid to support our friend and inspiration we are setting up this page to allow everyone near and far to show their support. We have also created a #Project19v2 challenge that consists of 19 spins and 19 juggles (kick ups). Please donate whatever you have or get involved with the challenge and post it to social media. Thank you in advance for your continued support!
