Journal entry by John Weitkum

Ok, so lets catch up, it's been an eventful last few weeks for Justin.  He began his five day straight chemotherapy (even cycle) on August 30, and it ran through September 3. He said besides being exhausted and not hungry, it was better than his one day treatment (odd cycle). He then enjoyed the weather and some nice walks by the lake with his week gap in treatment. (I will put a pic or two in the gallery)

Back to the even cycle one day treatment on September 13, His Dr. met us in the day hospital (where Justin receives his chemotherapy) and was pleased with Justin's progress, or lessened pain in his abdomen, and said his lungs were "clear as a bell". Having the Dr. there saved nearly an hour of waiting between labs and his routine appointment, which is awesome, since it is a very long day for him regardless.

On Tuesday morning we found out that Justin's half brother, who is too young to get the vaccine, tested positive for Covid, By Tuesday afternoon Justin was having difficulty breathing and was feverish, I brought him to the Froedtert emergency in New Berlin (recommended by his oncology team due to overcrowding at the main hospital) at 5pm. He was in tough shape when we were admitted, 103 temperature, pulse racing, blood pressure through the roof. Thanks to everyone at there for being patient with me, as I tried to make Justin as comfortable as possible. I may have had a minor melt down due to there not being ice packs (beside the 10 minute plastic bags, suitable for a shiner or scratch). He was immediately put on oxygen, IV fluids and IV antibiotics, after a few hours they requested that he be transferred to the main hospital in Wauwatosa. 11pm the ambulance arrives to transport...

Wednesday September, 14. ICU at the main hospital, Justin has pneumonia and Covid, he was over a month past his first vaccination and a week past #2. I am blown away at how rapidly his health deteriorated, in the 1 hour drive from Racine to New Berlin I could tell he was in trouble and getting worse. (Covid is a M'r-F'r! are you picking up what I'm putting down, GET VACCINATED! wear masks, keep your distance)

It's Saturday 09/18, Justin is still at Froedtert, but not in the ICU, he is at CFAC on floor 7. He is still on oxygen and IV fluids and medicine, but his temperature is near normal and the tachycardia and blood pressure has been controlled.
