Journal entry by Amy Heitner —
This past Monday we traveled to a specialist in NJ to hear Dr. Wittig's take on our situation. The Dr. said without hesitation, that there wasn't a surgery that he could perform that would help. Since Justin cannot feel pain very well in his bad shoulder, he wouldn't be able to avoid overstressing/destroying any replacement shoulder reconstruction. He said the danger of resulting infection and complications would essentially be greater than doing nothing. When he talked about infection, in the worst case scenario, it would lead to amputation. Yikes!!
For us this was the final word in this long process of seeking healing. We have prayed for healing, but also prayed for the Lord's will to be done. Justin's shoulder was ruined before he was even aware of it. When we have nothing to do with the situation, we believe we can regard this decision as of the Lord. Thus, we are looking for the Lord's direction, believing we are right in the center of His will.
Justin is intent on getting life back to normal--or nearly as normal as possible. Please pray with us as we take one day at a time. Thank you for the many prayers over the last 6 months, your love, support and encouragement.
