Newest Update

Journal entry by Mandy Heibel

First and foremost. We all want to thank everyone for all the calls, gifts, flowers, thoughts, and prayers throughout these past 9 months.  I am glad to sit here tying today at what we hope will be the last update for 3 months!

Mom & Dad got notification today that the pathology report from her surgery was in.  Her doctor reported that there is in fact NO residual cancer left.  The Chemo & radiation worked as the should and killed all cancer. During surgery, they removed 16 lymph nodes all of which were negative. They also removed 18’ of her colon/rectal area- ALL free of cancer. The doctor said it was highly unlikely that it will ever come back!

In about 3 months or so after the area heals Mom will have one more surgery to reverse the ileostomy and she will be DONE!!

This has been such a scary road for all of us. Especially Mom.  She was so strong through all of this, definitely, a fighter. I can’t even fathom the pain and fear and that she had every single day and still managed to keep going on. My dad stood by her side every single step of the way. Truly inspirational to all of us.  Again, thank you to everyone who followed Mom’s story and I am so happy to say she is officially in REMISSION!!
