Judy’s Story

Site created on February 29, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.   On super bowl Sunday, my mom was  admitted to the hospital with shortness of breath and fatigue thanks to a dear friend of hers who insisted she go. Attributing it to stress and fatigue of being 80 (this woman does not look a day over 65) and caring for my step dad, she did not think much of it.  After many tests and 3 weeks later, we are all shocked and quite overwhelmed with her double whammy of a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer and stage 2 breast cancer (different cancers). The cancer thankfully has not spread to her neck, collar bone or brain, however it is in both lungs and lymph nodes and her left breast. With all the advancements in modern medicine for these two cancers in particular along with her strong faith and the tremendous love and support of her family and friends, we are optimistic. My mom's famous phrase is "the only way through it is THROUGH it," so here we go!!!!!

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Journal entry by Lisa Pohll

SUCCESS! The surgery went well, and my mom is home already antsy to move around. My biggest challenge is making her relax and keep still. It is not in her genetic make-up to rest. She has a total of a 6 week recovery time, but the first few days are the most difficult. With that said, she is not in much pain - just a little sore. Hopefully, this will be the last of her procedures! Thank you all for your love and prayers.
