Judy’s Story

Site created on October 3, 2021

As many of you know, Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2021.  I'm sure you wont be surprised to know that she has been blessed with many family and friends that check in with her quite often.  She treasures you all, and hates the fact that she cannot reach back out to you as quickly as she would like to.  This is why we thought it would be a good idea for her and you to have this site to check in on.

Here is a quick recap of her fight thus far.
April/June 2021- she was diagnosed with an Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).
June- present-  Xray(s), MRI(s), CT scan(s), Genetic testing,  PET scan, mediastinoscopy, EKG(s), Fluoroscopy port placement, Transthoracic Echocardiogram, Blood draws, Blood cultures, [3] Chemotherapy Infusions, Hydration therapy, Antibiotic Infusion Therapy AND most all the side effects that come with chemotherapy.
Oct 5th- she will ring the Chemo Bell at the clinic after her 4th and final infusion. (a tradition after your final chemo treatment that signifies winning a round of the fight against cancer).
It has been a journey.  She is a fighter, but cancer is no joke.
The next 4 weeks, she will fight the side effects of chemo once and for all.  She will build up strength and get ready for surgery.
November 4th is surgery day.  Followed with radiation a few weeks after that.

We will keep you updated.
I know that she would love to hear from you.  If you'd like to drop a note or card in the mail please do so.

Thank you for all your support.

Love,  Leland, Erik, Amy, Mike & Jonna

Journal entry by Jonna Janet

“Ring this bell
Three times well,
Its toll to clearly say
My treatment’s done,
This course is run,
And I’m on my way.”

Mom rang the bell today!  She still has to let this treatment run it's course which isn't taken lightly, but we consider this a huge win today.

For those of you that do not know about this tradition [I had no idea before her diagnosis] The bell signals the end of chemotherapy treatment.

As per Mom's usual, she walked in with a good attitude today even though the last chemo was pretty brutal.  Amy and I waited in the parking lot outside her window.  She waved to us periodically, flashed us a thumbs up & sent us texts and Marco Polos from her chair.  She even at one moment asked Amy what she was eating and told her she was hungry too.

When she was done she came down stairs, took pictures and videos, got to hit a gong in addition to ringing the bell and then proceeded tell her nurses, doctors and front desk people that "she loved them."  😍

Her family is so proud of her!  Now it's time to heal, get strong and get ready for surgery Nov 4.

Thanks to all for your prayers.
