Journal entry by Andrea King —
Loving family and friends,
Over a week has passed since Joy’s beautiful memorial service, but the images of the event are still fresh in our minds! Over 200 people joined us in person; many more watched live online, some as close as Waverly Gardens, others as far away as Texas, Georgia, Massachusetts and California--we spanned the coasts! The sanctuary at House of Hope was in bloom with many colorful flower arrangements and the church buzzed with us sharing memories of Joy!
We would like to thank everyone for all of your prayers and well wishes during this very difficult time. It is so uplifting for us to experience the warmth and love you have all shown us. We have enjoyed hearing each and every personal story of the many ways Mom touched so many. One person told us that Joy taught her how to be a friend. I think she taught us ALL how to be a friend. Across the board, you have told us you could always count on Joy for that phone call, card, or visit (armed with fresh baked brownies, of course!).
We also appreciate the many thoughtful cards and memorials you have offered to Prior Crossing at House of Hope and St. Paul AAUW Scholarship Trust; Joy supported both generously over the years.
Mom left us the gift of being very specific regarding the allocation of her many treasures (one person described Mom's apartment as more like a museum!). The possessions she cherished for so many years will be lovingly enjoyed by family and friends, as well as her bequest of a number of items to AAUW.
I think Bill said it beautifully when he said that we keep Joy alive in our hearts every time we reach out to another...so...MAKE that phone call, SEND that note, STOP BY for that visit... LOVE one another... And, that is how we keep JOY in our hearts forever.
We love you all. This will be our last post here.
