Joyce’s Story

Site created on September 4, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

I started my cancer journey on July 11th when I heard the words you have cancer. I have chosen to remain positive so far but have to admit as I face the start of chemo I'm feeling more anxious.
My attitude is I've got this I raised 3 kids on my own without the help or financial support of their father. I'm a strong independent woman as a result. However when this journey began I'm learning to accept the help of others, it's ok to lean on others for support what ever that may look like.  Thank you to everyone that has reached out to see how I'm doing and have provided words of encouragement.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Joyce Russell

My last chemo infusion is tomorrow and I have been in a funk all day. Im Not looking forward to being sick for a little over a week afterwards, however I'm thrilled it's the last one.

I will still have to get a PET scan to make sure nothing shows up and have my port removed. However the hard part will be over.

I guess I am having survivor's guilt, as I have lost two friends to cancer this year. One friend will have to have chemo or experimental treatments for the rest of her life. Another friend received more chemo than myself and had more surgeries.

Regardless I am/ will be a cancer survivor when all of this is over.

Thank you everyone for your support.
