Joyce Dyess’s Story

Site created on May 5, 2018

I never thought I would have a Carringbridge website. Well here I am sharing my story.  My journey began March 3rd, 2018.  I am a mom with three grown children and 2 precious grandsons. A new job, and single . Facing cancer at 59, alone was definitely not in my plan.

I noticed that my left breast was starting  to be inverted in the nipple area. Made a appointment with my GYN to have it checked out.  So on Match the 3rd the exrays, mammograms, and ultrasounds started. By the end of that day I had an appointment with a surgeon and  knew that my life is now forever changed. God was already working things out for my good by setting the steps I had to take now in order.

Meet with my surgeon the following Wednesday, March 7th. She then started more test, ultrasounds and biopsies.  She had also found spots on my right breast she knew did not look good. So after all the  results of the biopsies she confirmed that I indeed had Ductal carcinoma in my left breast and Lobular carcinoma in the right in multiple places.  My double mastectomy took place on April, 17th.  I was not prepared for that mentally, physically, or emotionally. I could not have it to this point with out prayes of many. I am blessed when it comes to family and friends. Thank you all !

Journal entry by Joyce Woodard

Well Friday was my oncologist appointment. I was very anxious about it to say the least.  Margaret also was with me sitting and waiting to hear the treatment plan. We spent over 2.5 hours and left feeling so blessed . After my oncologist explained to us that All my cancer is now gone,  and even the cancer in my nymph node was now all gone. He did not feel that chemo would be of any benefit to me. He explained that they also removed other nodes and they were all clear.  God has healed me and chemo is of no use. Wow. Stage 2, and cancer free. I will be on Tamoxifen for 5 years  as a estrogen blocker.  He did order a CT scan for Thursday to verify his findings. Plus it's extra peace of mind for my family.

After hearing from my oncologist.  I still can't believe how very blessed I am to be able to say I am free of cancer!! Praise the Lord !!  I still have several , or at least two surgeries I will have to have to finish up my reconstruction . It has been a rough couple of months and I still have several to go. I could not have done it without the love and support of my family and friends . Once again,  to God be the glory!!!

Please continue to pray as this is still not over.  I am still very weak and dealing with the emotional ,and physical aspects of the surgery . I go back tomorrow for another fill and boy does that hurt . Thank you for your thoughts and prayers , I have felt each one❤❤❤❤
