Joy’s Story

Site created on February 13, 2019

Fall of 2018, Joy began to not feel well and was sent to a urologist for further examination.  After biopsies and scans, Joy was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in October 2018. She had surgery to remove her bladder in December 2018.  She had a rough healing process and began having horrible pain on her left side and down her leg.  After further MRI's, scans, and biopsies, we met with the oncologist today to get the results.  It was determined that the cancer has already spread and now presented itself in tumors on her left and right side of the pelvis pressing on nerves causing most of her excruciating pain.  As her parents so appropriately named her, Joy continues to reflect the spirit of God through her attitude and her determination that she will win this battle.  All the continued love, support, and prayers from her friends, family, and beloved church St. Georges is the core source of her strength.

Journal entry by Elizabeth Cox

This evening Joy graduated to Heaven.  Elizabeth and Mary were with her.  Her grandson Jackson was there waiting for her hand and take her to her new world with her brother and parents. For all of us fortunate enough to know her, there is no doubt that we will be grieving and missing her everyday until we get to meet her again.  Our family is at peace knowing that such a sweet, kind, and loving angel is no longer suffering.  Although she was not ready to leave this world, she shared that she knew exactly where she was going.  We are extremely grateful for Father Clint Wilson and Father Chad Jones for guiding Joy and our family through this.  Few folks in this world carry the love and passion that Joy did for her faith and her church.  We are all stronger and better people having had such an influential spirit like Joy in our lives.  We will update the time and date for her service.  We do ask that those whom will see Austin and Henry tomorrow for their first day of school to please understand that their parents wish to share this news after their first day to allow them to process and grieve this at a time that is with the least amount of distraction.  Thank you all for your prayers, support, and love that has carried us all through this.
