There is a difference (at least for now) in social security disability and insurance company disability. SS knows it has to pay when certain criteria are met and they don't make it as difficult. They will happily kick you off if you accidentally screw something up like making an extra $1 one month (I have a stepdaughter with severe mental illness who is on SSI). But private companies don't want you to sign up for long term disability in the first place or for anything that is going to cost them and they will do anything to not let you on or kick you off. They have been practicing this art now for about forty years and have gotten so much better at it. So not surprised they are giving you a hard time. When you most need a little hand holding . . . I am so sorry you are going through this crap. It is not fair. it is stupid. It takes a huge amount of perseverance to get through it when perseverance is the last thing you feel you have. I keep imagining for you days when you can just hang with your family and not deal with the constant bureaucracy, etc. Sarah, I need your physical address to send you the Joshua bracelet fundraising money. Sending you huge hugs and love.

No one should have to deal with all of these broken systems at the same time as having to be the caregiver, mother,...and all the many roles you play in your life. I wish there were organizations that offered support for all of those necessary, but seriously irritating things you have to do. Sending you love daily (more than once a day!).

So sorry for all the unnecessary headaches and red tape with disability and other things. So crazy when you need help and support not brick walls! Prayers for easier navigation.

Remember, the times it feels like we aren't getting the support we think we need, it's coming in a different way than we realize, because that's what is truly needed. I see you! Why won't this just get done? Why don't they get it? Why is this so hard? Because it's supposed to be. Don't look for the lesson, just realize that's what it is. Breathe, do what YOU can do, with the resources available to you now. That's the best YOU can do. Big, big hugs and lots of love. You are doing so much, and you are getting the really, important things done. 💜💜💜

Oh Sara, I am so sorry you are having problems with Disability. I know how difficult it is to go thru. We had to find a dr outside of the Sutter system. And that was expensive for us to have done. Guy has been denied,. denied, and denied again. I appealed it, denied again. So I work hard for both of us to survive. I wish I knew more answers to help you. Our systems are just too messed up.

Ugh…. I feel you for those dreaded forms. I despise them. Some can be just crazy complicated…
Not what you want to deal with in consideration with all else you have going on.

Hang in there. It will get done and you might get hold of just the right person to help you get it moving.

I had to apply for Social Security Disability Insurance for my husband. I called the local SS office and they made an appointment to return my call and discuss how to apply. They told me exactly what I needed before the phone appointment. Basically, I needed to know the last day he worked, the hospital/medical visits and the doctors names. It is worth a try, even though it is more work for you yet again. They seemed to be easier to deal with than medical insurance companies. We didn't apply for short-term or long-term disability through his work since he was almost 65 and could get on Social Security. Insurance companies are such a pain to deal with. Has the doctor actually filled out the paperwork? Hopefully this will be resolved for you soon.

Hi Sara, keep pushing with the doctor's office as what they need to get the paperwork completed. I wonder if the medical records dept know how to do this process or the person who does is not there. Also check on eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance which is something to consider for your whole family. You can check online for requirements for SSDI and call your local SS Office for additional info. I know this is frustrating but unfortunately that is how these things work. It is hard to be caring for a family member and deal with medical insurance and get a straight answer. The Insurance reps seem to be reading from the pdf on the computer when I call my insurance just to get approval for a vaccine. At least your doctor has the paperwork to start the process. Prayers that Joshua feels better.
