Joseph’s Story

Site created on June 12, 2020

Hi family and friends. Thank you so much for your continual prayers and support for the Purtell family. We are going to use this platform for communication and updates from here on out. The Lord is moving mightily and has continued to provide an abundance of comfort and peace for Thomas and Christina as they have remained surrendered to the Lord’s sovereign plan! For those who are not aware as to what happened, Joseph Purtell fell about 50 ft while rock climbing down in Corona Del Mar and shattered his pelvis.

Journal entry by Christina Purtell

Joseph had his last doctor’s appointment with his surgeon. He has been cleared of all physical activities. The surgeon initially said it would take a year before he was cleared, but by God’s grace, it took 6 months. Joseph continues to gain strength and energy every day. Occasionally he experiences nerve pain, but it isn’t often. He is almost done with his PT, and he is working with a trainer to build muscle. He may have his plate and screws removed in about 6 months to help with any pain and discomfort, but he doesn’t need to decide that yet. It may take 6 months to a year to be completely back, but he is so thankful for the progress he has. He just finished his first semester since his accident and has done very well.

With this being our last caring Bridge post, I want to thank all of you for walking with us through this very difficult season. For interceding for us in our weakest time. Words cannot express how thankful I am for all of you. God faithfully carried us through each and every step, we also were never alone with all of you walking with us. The best way to express my appreciation for all of you is by faithfully walking with others during their hard times, just like all of you did for us. Each of you has taught me how to minister to those who are in need. How to pray, and for some of you, you taught me how to pray for those you have never even met. I will always remember the love and support we have been given.

This year truly has been the hardest year of our lives, BUT GOD faithfully walked us through each and every step. Though we would not want to relive this past year, Joseph said it best, “I wouldn’t change anything that happened because God has used it to draw us closer to him and to glorify Him through it.“ May we all glorify God through each season of our lives!

God is good!

Everything He does is good!

He will work this for our Good!

So I am Good!

I pray you all have a wonderful Christmas as we celebrate our Savior’s birth!!!!
