Joe’s Story

Site created on January 4, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. A couple of years ago Joe was diagnosed with CLL/Lymphoma. Joe has been seeing an hematologist oncologist to monitor this disease. Over the summer he noticed some slight changes in his neck area. Multiple doctors thought these changes were due to the CLL/Lymphoma. The mass eventually grew and needed to be further tested. This past December, Dad and I visited a surgeon about removing this mass. Our Dad Joe is scheduled to have surgery on 1/5/22 at the University of Chicago. During surgery he will have this mass removed from the right side of his neck underneath his jaw. This mass is thought to be a squamous cell carcinoma tumor. This complex surgery will take 8-10 hours. After surgery he will be in the ICU for a couple of days followed by a couple more days in a regular hospital bed. Joe is a little nervous as we all would be. We know he is going to pull this off like nobody else can. We appreciate all of your love, support, prayers and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Melissa Glimco

As we were hoping , Mom and Dad came home early this evening. We are so grateful to have them home. First thing Dad did was take a shower. He is looking forward to a luxurious night of sleep without people poking at him throughout the night. Mom has been taking such good care of him. I’m sure they might of kept him another night if it were not for the good care they saw from Mom. He still has several draining tubes helping to reduce inflammation and he doesn’t have use of his upper right side, but he is able to walk. Not out of the woods yet, but doing great so far. Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes!
