Jordan’s Story

Site created on July 8, 2018

Welcome to our Caring Bridge website. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  Jordan started to be sick while she was working at a summer camp job in Rock Springs, Texas at Camp Eagle in the end of May 2018.  We soon discovered that she was much sicker than we could have thought. We found out that she has Hodgkin's Lymphoma- cancer of the lymph system. We are overwhelmed and saddened by this news but sense God’s timing and sovereignty in so many ways. We, her parents, just moved back from serving the mission field in Cambodia just five days prior to her feeling sick. Jordan is 19 years old and has many aspirations and goals. Please stand with us in praying for her and helping us stay encouraged as she journey's through the battle of fighting for her health. We are forever grateful for the community around us that is helping our family through this crises. Newest Update

Journal entry by Casey Friedberg

Can you believe it's been over 3 months since our post-treatment scan? Dr. Cheng wanted to get a scan at the 3 month mark just to make sure that everything remained stable. He especially wanted a 3 month Cat-scan due to Jordan's last Pet-Scan showing some strange findings(several lit up areas that the biopsies eventually showed to be benign "brown fat" spots) and also because the lymphoma was so advanced. Usually a normal post scan checkup wouldn't happen until 6 months after treatment.
We are happy to say that the Cat-scan showed no new changes since the last one! Yay!!! What a relief!! We realize this is going to be our routine, periodically having to face these checkups. BUT GOD promises to be is with us every step of the way. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

In the meantime, Jordan just had her 20th birthday, another reminder of God's amazing faithfulness. She is also near completion of her second semester at Saddleback Community College. Jordan also got a job working at Sprouts grocery store and obtained her driver's learning permit last month! These are so important as she launches into normal young adult life:-) Other news is her sister Micah also moved back from Virginia after completing college. Additionally, we asked that you would pray for Jordan's hormones to return to normal. Often one of the side effects of chemo/immunotherapy is infertility. In fact, Jordan's treatment caused a not so fun "menopausal" state. Jordan was experiencing hot flashes and everything else that comes from decreased hormone levels. We are thankful to say that her body seems to be returning to normal and there are good signs that her fertility will be OK. Yay! Praise be to God for answered prayer!!
So, Jordan's hair is growing back. Routine check ups of blood work and scans will continue. Each doctor visit we will have the opportunity to trust God. The doctor wants the Port-a-cath to remain in Jordan's chest
for a year (the easy IV access underneath the skin that is placed above her heart), just to be on the safe side. We have to get it flushed every month to keep it free from clots. And best of all....normal life can continue to move forward!!!

Thank you again for all your precious prayers and support!!!
Love, Matt, Casey, Micah, & Jordan
