Jon’s Story

On September 25, 2018, Jon was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia with TP53 mutation.  His only hope for a cure would be a successful stem cell transplant. After Jon’s siblings were ruled out as donors and  an extensive, albeit unsuccessful, search for a full match donor, it was determined that our son, Mark, would be the donor, half-matched. Mark was involved in a car accident, received a concussion, and is still symptomatic, so he was no longer a candidate. It fell to our daughter, Misty, and on Feb. 25th, she donated nearly 1/2 gallon of bone marrow from which the stem cells would be harvested. The next day, Jon received her stem cells, a Haploidentical Transplant. One day at a time.
